FAQ

Common questions

What makes Star Loyalty different from a loyalty app?

We're not just software — we're a return-on-investment product. As well as your branded loyalty card, we run geofenced notifications that reach customers when they're nearby and SMS and email campaigns that bring people in on your slow days, and we measure what every campaign brings back. Our clients see an average 30% increase in returning customers.

How does geofencing work?

We set a virtual boundary around your venue. When an opted-in loyalty member walks into it, their phone shows a timely message from you — such as a reward waiting or a quiet-time offer.

What does Star Loyalty actually do?

We design, launch and manage customer loyalty and retention programmes for cafés, restaurants, padel clubs and multi-location operators. That includes the reward strategy, branded digital loyalty cards, targeted campaigns and monthly reporting — done for you.

Which areas do you cover?

We're based in Hertford and work with businesses across Hertford, Ware and Harlow, plus central London neighbourhoods including Soho, Marylebone, Fitzrovia, Covent Garden and Mayfair. We're happy to discuss businesses elsewhere too.

Do my customers need to download an app?

No. Customers join by scanning a QR code and saving a card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. No download, no password.

How long does it take to launch?

Typically two to three weeks from our discovery call to launch day, including printed QR materials and staff briefing notes.

How much does it cost?

It depends on your number of sites and the services you need. We'll give you a clear, fixed quote after a free consultation — no surprises.

Is it GDPR compliant?

Yes. Customers opt in when they join, can opt out at any time, and you remain the owner of your customer data.

Do my customers need to download an app?

No. Customers join by scanning a QR code and saving a digital card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. It takes seconds and there is nothing to download, which means far more people actually sign up.

How long does it take to launch a loyalty programme?

Most programmes are designed, built and ready to launch within two to three weeks of our discovery call, including printed QR materials for your counter or reception.

What is geofencing?

A geofence is a virtual boundary drawn around a location, such as your café or club. When a loyalty member who has opted in enters that area, their phone can show a notification from your business.

Will customers find it intrusive?

Not when it's done properly. Members opt in, can turn alerts off at any time, and we limit how often anyone is notified so every message feels relevant.

Is this compliant with GDPR and UK marketing rules?

Yes. Customers opt in when they join your programme, and every message includes a simple way to opt out. We set up consent capture correctly from day one.

How often will my customers be messaged?

Only when there's a reason. Most customers receive a handful of messages a month at most, triggered by their own behaviour rather than a fixed schedule.

Does it work on both iPhone and Android?

Yes. We create passes for both Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, so every smartphone user can join.

What happens if a customer gets a new phone?

Their card is linked to their details, so they can re-add it in seconds and keep their balance.

Do I need any technical knowledge?

None at all. Reports are written in plain English and we talk you through them on a short monthly call.

Where does the data come from?

Primarily from your loyalty programme — sign-ups, visits, redemptions and campaign responses. Where useful, we can also bring in data from your booking or till system.
